Earth Observation

Communicating the Earth to you in all its forms

Since the establishment of the Earth Observation Center (EOC) under the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), RESTEC has served as a specialized organization in the remote sensing industry for more than 35 years. It provides a consistent, one-stop service for satellite observation operations, from the reception and processing of Earth observation data, to the development of ground systems, calibration and validation, and distribution of the data to users.

RESTEC is acquiring various forms of technology. These include correction technologies for satellite data, for which a high level of precision and complicated operations are required in order to conduct Earth observations, as well as the establishment of systems that can help users conduct searches easily among vast data libraries.

Going forward, RESTEC will continue to utilize the knowhow that it has built up over the many years it has put into the business, in order to further enhance services that are provided from the standpoint of users utilizing earth observation data.

Providing operation technology founded upon a wealth of experience

RESTEC harnesses its wealth of experience gained from the operation of 20 satellites based in Japan and overseas to operate its systems in a series of processes ranging from the formulation of observation plans to data distribution.

Harnessing knowhow to develop ground systems

RESTEC harnesses the information on knowhow and user needs gained through the provision of its consistent, one-stop service ranging from satellite observation operations to data distribution, by feeding this knowhow back into the development of ground systems and new products.

Calibration and validation

RESTEC carries out radiometric calibration, geometric calibration, and other calibration and validation processes in order to ensure that its images are precise and accurate. It also measures and analyzes field data to ensure the accuracy of estimations of physical quantities such as temperature and steam.
