Baikonur Cosmodrome
2022.10.04

Let's introduce "a gateway to space" because the UN-declared World Space Week begins on Oct 4th.

The image is AW3D 2.5m standard data of the Baikonur Cosmodrome, a Russian rocket launch site in Kazakhstan.
The city of Baikonur, where the space center is located, is leased and managed by Russia from Kazakhstan and cannot be entered without special permission, but it can look here from the satellite image.
The AW3D image shows buildings and undulations of the land, which are difficult to see in the 2D image, and it can be supposed that the land is relatively flat with few ups and downs.

From that place, the first satellite "Sputnik 1" was launched in 1957, and "Vostok 1" was launched in 1961 with Major Yuri Gagarin, the first human onboard.
Sixty-five years later, many rockets launched from here, even now, and GRUS-1B, 1C, 1D, and 1E (AXELSPACE, Japan) launched on Mar 22nd, 2021, and a rocket carrying astronauts launched on Sep 21st, 2022.
