Timor-Leste Trainees Learn about Remote Sensing for Maritime Affairs


RESTEC welcomed four participants from Timor-Leste, and organized a lecture for them on December 19, 2016. They belong to National Directorate of Fisheries Inspection, General Directorate of Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, and National Police of Timor-Leste, Maritime Police Unit. They learned about the RESTEC outline as well as the latest basic knowledge on remote sensing and its applications to various fields. They were actively involved in the lecture, and obtained the necessary knowledge how they apply and utilize it in their actual patrol activities.
The lecture was organized as a part of JICA Knowledge Co-Creation Program “Policies and Countermeasures against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing”. The course objectives are to enhance their understanding about the necessity to systematically counteract IUU fishing and prepare themselves about effectively plan and implement policies and countermeasures against IUU fishing.
