Participants from Afghanistan Learn about Remote Sensing for Water Resource Management

RESTEC welcomed 16 participants from the Water Resources Department (WRD) of the Ministry of Energy and Water of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in a seminar held on 3rd August 2016. They learned about the latest basic knowledge on remote sensing and its applications to understand the concept and utilize it in their activities.

In particular, RESTEC introduced the global precipitation measurement (GPM) derived from satellite data, which must be very useful for water resources management in Afghanistan. In addition, case studies on environmental and disaster monitoring as to hydrological change around the Aral Sea, glacier monitoring and flood monitoring were introduced in consideration of future-better management of WRD in the field of hydro-meteorological monitoring.

Lectures in the seminar were carried out as a part of the training in Japan from 25th July to 10th August under the Project for Capacity Enhancement on Hydro-Meteorological Information Management, organized by CTI Engineering International Co., Ltd. (CTII) and funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
