2016-03-07

On February 26, 2016, a delegation from Turkey visited RESTEC and completed the entire training program, which was co-hosted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan (MEXT) and the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications of the Republic of Turkey.

RESTEC arranged and supported the program based on the requests from the co-hosting ministries. The program included 5 days of lectures on remote sensing applications in the areas of agriculture, forests, natural disasters and the ocean at the RESTEC office. The program also included facility tours to the Tsukuba Space Center (TKSC) of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and the Kamakura Works of the Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (MELCO).

The delegation was composed of 9 trainees from the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, Turksat Company, TUBITAK-UZAY (Space Technologies Research Institute), TAI (Turkish Aerospace Industries, Inc.), ITU-CSCRS (Istanbul Technical University – Center for Satellite Communications and Remote Sensing), and BITES Defence & Aerospace.

A closing ceremony followed up the end of training sessions. During the ceremony, Mr. Ali Baygeldi made a speech as the head of the Turkish delegation and emphasized the collaboration between two friendly nations, Japan and Turkey. Furthermore, he briefly mentioned the relevance of the training sessions undertaken by RESTEC to the space program of Turkey and mentioned the need for a further training session dedicated to advanced SAR technologies in the near future.
