RESTEC Supports JICA Training for SAR Interferometry in South Africa
On November 10 to 13, 2015, a remote sensing training course on SAR Interferometry was held in Pretoria, South Africa. The training course was funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in collaboration with the South African National Space Agency (SANSA). RESTEC dispatched two experts upon the request of JICA. It was the 3rd time for RESTEC to dispatch lecturers for South Africa following the 1st course in March and 2nd course in June.
19 trainees from ministries, agencies, universities, and companies in South Africa participated in and completed the 3 day training. The training focused on transfering the expertise on SAR Interferometry which can capture even slight deformations of ground surface. Some trainees expect to use this technique for monitoring of such hazards as sinkholes caused by mining exploitation.
