RESTEC supported JICA’s SAR Training in South Africa
On 9th – 11th March 2015, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) held a remote sensing training course in the collaboration with the South African National Space Agency (SANSA) at their ground station near Pretoria, South Africa. According to the request from JICA, RESTEC sent two lecturers to give lectures and teach how to handle SAR data. JICA prepared a large volume of ALOS data as well as PCs for trainees.
Approximately 25 participants from ministries, agencies, and local governments of SA joined the training and leaned the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and the Advanced Land Observing Satellite -1 and 2 (ALOS-1/2). They successfully completed the training and requested JICA to organize another advanced training course.
Some voices from the participants.
- An advanced course is necessary if possible let’s have it.
- The course was very interesting will love to have other one in detail.
- Very useful course that widened my understanding of SAR versus optical data. Also the techniques to classify and analyse the data were very useful.
- The training was done very professionally. The concepts were explained very clearly. It was well received.
