2015-03-02

On 24th – 26th February 2015, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and the Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARRSO) held “2nd JAXA SAR Data Training preparing for ALOS-2 Satellite Data Use” in Dhaka, Bangladesh. RESTEC supported planning and coordinating and sent 2 lecturers for the training.

JAXA and SPARRSO invited 20 participants from 16 Bangladesh organizations including 4 researchers from SPARRSO. JAXA provided observation data from the Advanced Land Observing Satellite 2 (ALOS-2) which was launched last May as well as the data from the previous satellite ALOS-1. RESTEC gave lectures related SAR data and practical training with free software and commercial software.

JAXA and SPARRSO organized a half day workshop on the final day to explore further opportunities of data application beyond the training. They shared their experience of remote sensing utilization. Some of them will collaborate to submit their proposals to donor agencies in near future.

20 Participants successfully completed the training and Ms. Shaheen Khan ndc, Chairman of SPARRSO, gave certificates to them at the closing ceremony.

In 2015, JAXA held SAR data trainings in Asian countries – i.e. Bangladesh, Indonesia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam. RESTEC supported the training in Bangladesh, Indonesia and Vietnam.
