Participation in GEO-FCT 3rd Science and Data Summit

ESTEC participated in the Group on Earth Observation (GEO), Forest Carbon Tracking (FCT) Task, 3rd Science and Data Summit (SDS3) on 6-9 February, 2012, in Arusha, Tanzania.

GEO-FCT is one of GEO tasks to support countries wanting to establish national forest-change, carbon estimation and reporting systems by using remote sensing data. GEO-FCT facilitates access to satellite, airborne and in-situ data, provide the associated analysis and prediction tools, and create the appropriate framework and technical standards for global a global network of national forest carbon tracking systems.

Total 83 participants joined this meeting and discussed the progress, status and guideline of satellite data products development, and further collaboration including capacity building.

RESTEC reported the capacity building activities in Brazil and Indonesia and shared the experience with the participants (see the presentation slides).

Next GEO-FCT SDS meeting will be held in February 2013. RESTEC will continue to collaborate with and contribute to GEO-FCT to demonstrate techniques and methods to monitor forest by satellite data.
