Possibility of Information Leakage Due to Infection from Computer Virus
he Remote Sensing Technology Center of Japan (hereafter, “RESTEC”) identified targeted e-mail attacks on computers used for administrative purposes by RESTEC employees on 24 February 2014 (Monday). As a result of investigations carried out with the cooperation of the Information-technology Promotion Agency, Japan, it was found that when the files were opened, some of the information (including e-mail addresses of business partners, and personal information of related organizations) stored on the computer that the files had been sent to may have been leaked to external parties.
Investigations are currently underway to clarify the causes and impact of this incident.
RESTEC takes this matter very seriously. In addition to establishing an Emergency Response Headquarters, it is also working together with related external professional organizations to carry out swift investigations into the causes and impact of the incident. Efforts are also being made to further strengthen information security in order to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
We would like to convey our sincere apologies to all customers and related personnel for the inconvenience and worry that the incident may have caused.
