Possible leak of information due to computer virus infection (report)
An “Apology and report” was issued on Thursday, March 6 with regard to a possible leak of information due to computer virus infection. The response of the Remote Sensing Technology Center of Japan (hereafter “this Center”) to this incident since then follows.
On Friday, February 28, once it was discovered that information (including private information such as client email addresses and organizational affiliations) stored on a computer belonging to an employee of the Center may have been leaked to an external party, the hard disk in question was submitted to an information leak investigator (hereafter “investigator”) to confirm whether a leak took place and identify what was leaked.
The result of the investigation was that no trace of access to actual files containing private information stored on the computer was found. It was also confirmed that there was no sign of access records being overwritten (erased).
To all customers and partners from related organizations, we sincerely apologize for the tremendous concern caused by this incident.
The Center takes this incident very seriously and we are acting to strengthen our information security in order to prevent any future recurrence.
