1. South African delegation completes its training program
On Sep 18, 2015, the trainees from South Africa completed the entire training program arranged by RESTEC. During their one month stay in Japan, they learned about the policy concerning Japan’s earth observation, the theory of SAR, various applications of remote sensing, the roles of the private sector, activities of small satellite development, etc.

2. Trainees from PNG take RS training for forest management
RESTEC accepted two trainees from Papua New Guinea (PNG) for three days from Sep 14 to 16, 2015. They came to Japan to receive two weeks of training on Remote Sensing / GIS as part of the “Capacity Development Project for Operationalization of PNG Forest Resource Information Management System for Addressing Climate Change.”

3. RESTEC to arrange an official side event at COP-21
The secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) accepted RESTEC’s application for a side event at the 21st Conference of Parties (COP-21), which was jointly proposed with the European Space Agency (ESA). The side event will focus on forest monitoring through the use of earth observation satellites, including the activities of the Global Forest Observation Initiative (GFOI) of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO). COP-21 will be held in Paris, France on November 30 – December 11, 2015.
4. Call for Participants in Training WS from Southern Africa
RESTEC arranges “MEXT-JAXA Satellite Data Training Workshop in Japan” to be held in Tokyo on November 16 – 20, 2015. The workshop is hosted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). The official invitation letter has been sent to the member states of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Deadline of application is September 30, 2015.
