1. RESTEC was selected as a joint operator of ALOS-2
Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) selected RESTEC along with PASCO Corporation and Space Engineering Development Corporation (SED) as a joint operator of ALOS-2 including data distribution.
RESTEC, PASCO and SED are now preparing for ALOS-2 operation and data distribution with JAXA. Further information will be provided soon.
2. RESTEC developed the technology to generate color image from SAR data
Existing single polarization SAR imagery are monochrome, which many of our customers found made it difficult to decipher land surface detail. So RESTEC has come up with a technology that brings SAR imagery closer to the coloration of optical imagery, showing the true color of greenery, water surfaces in deep blue, and land in brown-gray.

5. Message from President of RESTEC
I am very happy to have this “RESTEC e-news” launched.
JICA training seminar has been organized every year since 1977, two years after RESTEC was established until last year, with a total of 428 participants from 56 overseas countries. Every time participants were chosen from relevant organizations of each country for promotion of Remote Sensing technology.
I do appreciate the wisdom and effort to have initiated this JICA program such early timing of Japan’s history of development of space science and technology in order to share the knowledge and experience using space satellite for Remote Sensing with developing countries worldwide.
6. Message from Coordinator
Dear JICA Training Alumni,
It is my pleasure if this small column describes the stories of the participants posted every month from now on would serve as a reminder of those days.

Column 1. FIFA World Cup -Remote Sensing Team- (1994)
The 2014 FIFA World Cup had been taking place in Brazil till the middle of July. Twenty years have already passed since the 1994 FIFA World Cup was held in the USA. I miss the two months I spent together with “Remote Sensing Team”. As the JICA remote sensing training was held almost at the same time as the World Cup, the results drew the attentions of the participants and thus they discussed the topic every day.
